Lightwheel and Peritas AI Announce Partnership for $56M Multi-Phase Project to Bring Robots into Perioperative Workflows

Lightwheel and Peritas AI announced they have formed a strategic partnership to bring robots into perioperative healthcare workflows by combining infrastructure and orchestration technologies to enable deployment in clinical environments.

According to the companies, the collaboration will integrate Peritas AI’s orchestration platform with Lightwheel’s physical AI infrastructure, allowing robotic systems to be trained, validated and operated within real-world hospital workflows. The companies said the multi-phase initiative, valued at about $56 million, could support deployment of up to 200 humanoid robots across 2026 and 2027.

The companies noted healthcare operations, particularly in perioperative settings, remain highly fragmented, spanning sterile processing, operating rooms, logistics and equipment coordination across disconnected systems. The partnership is designed to address those gaps by enabling continuous, real-time coordination of workflows rather than relying on isolated automation systems.

“Healthcare doesn’t need more point solutions, it needs a system that can understand and coordinate the entire perioperative environment in real time,” said Peritas AI CEO Cortney Knoll said in the announcement. “We’re building the orchestration layer that connects fragmented workflows and enables intelligent systems to operate within them, supporting surgical teams by taking on operational burden so they can stay focused fully on patient care.”

Lightwheel will provide the infrastructure layer, including simulation environments, data generation, and training and evaluation systems that prepare robots for deployment. Peritas AI’s contribution is its orchestration platform that monitors and coordinates activities across perioperative environments to enable systems to respond dynamically as conditions change.

The companies indicated initial pilot programs are underway with healthcare providers and equipment manufacturers to validate the systems and plan phased deployments, the companies said.
