Apple is progressing its AI-powered wearables roadmap with the development of smart glasses expected to launch in 2027, according to reports from Mark Gurman. The company is currently testing four distinct design variations, including rectangular and oval frame options in multiple sizes and colours, as it refines the product’s form factor.
The glasses are expected to prioritise AI-driven functionality over display-based augmented reality, allowing users to capture photos and videos, manage calls, play music, and interact with an upgraded Siri. This positions the device closer to lightweight, AI-enabled assistants rather than full mixed reality headsets.
The initiative reflects Apple’s evolving approach to AI hardware, focusing on practical, everyday use cases following challenges with more ambitious augmented reality products such as Vision Pro.
