In the evolving battle for AI chip supremacy, AMD is carving out its distinct space against rivals like NVIDIA. At the heart of this competitive arena, AMD CEO Lisa Su took to ‘Closing Bell Overtime’ earlier this week to discuss the company’s forward momentum in AI, particularly through its AI PC strategy. Amidst a backdrop of increasing demand for AI, Su’s insights at SXSW in Austin highlighted AMD’s strategic moves and the potential of AI to revolutionize personal computing.
“AI is really still at the very beginnings of what we can do in technology,” said, underlining the nascent yet rapidly expanding field of AI. She expressed excitement over the AI PC domain, stating: “I’m very excited about continuing these AI products as you go from cloud to edge to PC and really trying to get the user experience such that everybody has AI somewhere in their lives.”
Addressing skepticism about the necessity of AI PCs, Su outlined AMD’s vision for the market’s evolution, emphasizing the shift towards more personalized and productive computing experiences.
“We are at the beginning of the era where we can make much more capable personal assistants in the PC form factor,” She said. This illustrates the future of AI in enhancing personal productivity tools.
Su also provided examples of how AI can transform everyday tasks, making them more efficient and less time-consuming.
“I can ask my PC when was the last time I saw John Ford? What did we talk about? Remind me what he was interested in,” she said, showcasing the potential for AI to manage personal data more effectively.
AMD’s leader also discussed AI’s role in professional settings, predicting that “expert users will start first” in adopting AI-powered PCs. Highlighting AMD’s role in the creative industry, she mentioned AMD technology’s use in Oscar-winning special effects, showcasing the company’s impact beyond traditional computing.
Su’s vision for AMD emphasizes AI’s transformative power across both personal and professional spheres, predicting, “I am absolutely sure that everyone is going to want an AI PC.”
Her perspective underscores AMD’s strategic positioning in the AI race, aiming to democratize AI technology for a broader audience and enhance productivity through advanced computing capabilities.
