In an interesting conversation at Dreamforce 2024 with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang discussed his perspective of the future of artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on the transformative potential of AI agents. Huang’s vision goes beyond traditional computing, heralding a new era where AI skills, rather than just tools, will drive innovation and productivity.
“Our industry is you know call it about a trillion dollars and it’s an industry of tools,” Huang explained. “For the very first time this is going to be an industry of skills.” This shift from tools to skills represents a fundamental change in how we interact with and leverage technology.
Huang sees a future where AI agents collaborate seamlessly to solve complex problems.
“We’re going to give a problem to agent force and agents are going to go find other agents that can help achieve this mission,” he said. This collaborative approach could revolutionize problem-solving across industries, potentially leading to breakthroughs in fields ranging from scientific research to business strategy.
Huang noted that the advancement of AI technology is outpacing traditional benchmarks of progress in the tech industry, suggesting that progress is likely advancing at nearly 100 times the usual speed. He explained that this rapid development is fueled by a powerful feedback loop between AI innovation and computing power.
“We’re at a stage now we’re in an era now where we’re moving way faster than Moore’s law,” Huang stated, referring to the famous prediction about the rate of increase in computing power. He attributes this exponential growth to advancements at every layer of computing, from hardware to software.
However, Huang also acknowledged the challenges that come with such rapid progress, particularly in the realm of AI safety. He detailed ongoing efforts to ensure responsible AI development, including “using AI to curate the data to create safe curriculum to teach the AI which then fine-tunes the AI on particular skills to grounded on values.”
As AI continues to evolve, Huang believes that creating and working with AI agents will become more accessible to non-experts. This democratization of AI technology could lead to a new wave of innovation across various sectors of the economy.
The conversation between Huang and Benioff underlined the transformative potential of AI agents in the enterprise world. As businesses begin to integrate these advanced AI capabilities, we may be witnessing the dawn of a new era in productivity and innovation.
