Young people across Europe can now access trusted information about Artificial Intelligence (AI), thanks to an engaging new series of 60 entertaining social media shorts launched by Vodafone Foundation.
‘Me, Myself & AI’is a series of videos, memes, background information and practical tips that address the escalating challenge for young people and their relationship with AI.
Supported by social media influencers, the humorous campaign is being shared onTikTok and YouTube has already reached more than 12m views across the UK, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, Albania and Romania.
Increasingly, young people interact with AI consciously through apps such as ChatGPT, and subconsciously through AI tools from social media platforms. But the daily influence of AI leaves many confused about how best to navigate or even whether to trust this fast-growing technology.
‘Me, Myself & AI’ helps young people better understand the mechanisms, risks and opportunities associated with AI. It also provides content designed to help support educators across Europe too.
The campaign is especially focussed on reaching young people from less privileged backgrounds who might otherwise have limited access to information or education about AI.
Joakim Reiter, Chief External & Corporate Affairs Officer at Vodafone and Trustee, Vodafone Foundation, said: “Young people use and adapt to new technologies faster than most, and schools often struggle to keep up with these trends. This campaign empowers young people across Europe to think about and use AI in a creative yet responsible way. By being better informed about how the technology works, young people can weigh up any risks that AI may pose.”
The campaign’s video shorts cover topics including:
- How does AI technology work?
- Where does the data used for AI applications come from?
- What risks does the use of AI present?
Vodafone Foundation is also working with social media creators to promote ‘Me, Myself & AI’, helping to increase recognition among young viewers.
Professor Dr Gergana Vladova, Chair of Computer Science Education/Computer Science and Society at Humboldt-Universität Berlin, helped develop the campaign to ensure that the concepts are relevant to young people.
‘Me, Myself & AI’ is part of the Kliick initiative, a pan-European Vodafone Foundation project to tackle issues affecting young people navigating the digital world each year. It supportsVodafone Foundation’s wider programmes to provide digital skills for life, including Skills Upload Jr , the pan-European initiative to empower educators and students in the self-confident, creative and critical use of digital technologies.
