Microsoft Announces $3B Investment to Transform AI and Cloud Infrastructure in India

In a recent press release, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, during his visit to India, announced a $3 billion investment in AI and cloud infrastructure over the next two years. The initiative includes establishing new data centers and advancing AI skilling through the ADVANTA(I)GE India program, aiming to train 10 million individuals by 2030.

Nadella highlighted India’s growing leadership in AI innovation, stating the investment reaffirms Microsoft’s commitment to making India an “AI-first” nation. He emphasized the role of AI in unlocking opportunities and accelerating progress toward India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, noted that the company has integrated AI into diverse sectors, from education to agriculture. He described the announcement as a pivotal step in equipping India with future-ready skills and resources to excel globally.

Microsoft’s strategy includes expanding data center infrastructure, with a fourth region set to go live in 2026, to meet the needs of India’s growing AI startups and research community. The AI Innovation Network, launched by Microsoft Research Lab, will foster collaborations with startups like Physics Wallah, enhancing AI solutions in education and other sectors.

The company also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SaaSBoomi to boost India’s SaaS and AI ecosystem, targeting over 5,000 startups and 200,000 new jobs over five years.

This investment underscores Microsoft’s broader commitment to responsible AI, sustainability, and empowering communities worldwide.
