Qualcomm to Acquire UK-Based Alphawave Semi for $2.4B to Expand AI and Data Center Capabilities

Qualcomm has announced its agreement to acquire Alphawave Semi, a U.K.-based semiconductor company specializing in high-speed data center connectivity, in a $2.4 billion deal aimed at accelerating its push into next-generation infrastructure technologies.

Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, said the acquisition reflects a shared vision to advance connected computing performance. He noted that integrating Alphawave’s wired connectivity and compute technologies will “enable next-level solutions across high-growth segments like data center infrastructure.”

The move follows Qualcomm’s recent acquisitions of VinAI’s generative AI division and IoT firm Edge Impulse. As the smartphone market cools, Qualcomm is reshaping its portfolio toward AI and cloud infrastructure. The deal is expected to close in Q1 2026.
