AI Marketing Startup Conversion Raises $28M Series A to Challenge Legacy Automation Tools

Conversion, an AI-native marketing automation startup, has raised $28 million in Series A funding led by Abstract, with participation from True Ventures and HOF Capital. The round brings the company’s total funding to $30 million.

Founded five years ago by Neil Tewari and James Jiao, two former UC Berkeley students, Conversion emerged from a homegrown marketing tool the duo originally built for themselves. After conducting over 150 interviews with marketing executives, they discovered widespread demand for deeper automation capabilities layered on top of existing platforms like HubSpot.

Today, Conversion integrates AI-powered workflows that can enrich contacts, organize leads, and automate personalized follow-ups. The company is approaching $10 million in annual recurring revenue, with about 90% of its customers replacing legacy platforms such as HubSpot, Salesforce Pardot, and Adobe Marketo. While the market remains competitive, the founders aim to displace incumbent tools in mid-sized businesses, where automation gaps remain most acute.
