Figma Introduces New AI-Powered Image Editing Suite to Streamline Design Workflows

Figma has unveiled a new set of AI-driven image editing tools designed to eliminate the need for external software and give designers greater control directly within the platform. The update introduces object removal, object isolation, and AI-assisted image expansion, enabling users to refine visuals without relying on text prompts or exporting files to third-party apps.

The upgraded lasso tool now allows designers to select, delete, or reposition objects while preserving surrounding background details. Users can also fine-tune lighting, shadows, color, and focus on isolated elements. A new image-expansion capability helps create alternate formats — such as web or mobile banners — by intelligently filling in missing background areas.

Figma has consolidated all image-editing options into a unified toolbar, giving quick access to common tasks like background removal and annotations. The features are now available in Figma Design and Draw, with broader rollout planned across the platform next year, marking a significant step as Figma moves to match capabilities long offered by rivals such as Adobe and Canva.
