In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) has taken the world by storm, Microsoft is leading with its latest unveiling of AI-powered PCs, dubbed the “fastest and most ready Windows PCs.” As the news made waves across the tech industry, with AI Insider highlighting it as a top story this week, Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President, joined ‘Power Lunch’ to shed light on this groundbreaking development.
Addressing the question of why consumers should upgrade their devices, the company had something interesting to say.
“These are the most advanced PCs we’ve ever built. They’re faster than a MacBook by a long while,” Mehdi confidently stated, adding that the unique capabilities these PCs offer, such as “Recall,” provide a “photographic memory of anything you’ve ever seen on your PC,” and real-time content creation with AI.
“You can create in real-time with AI, fast, private, and free,” Mehdi explained, highlighting the seamless integration of AI into the user experience. “And the ability to do live translation. While you and I are talking, you can literally switch languages and understand.”
Mehdi also shed light on the collaboration between Microsoft and chip manufacturers like Qualcomm and AMD.
“We have 40 AI models that are on the device, that allow you to do that creation in real-time or recall,” he said, which emphasizes the on-device AI capabilities. “All of that happens locally. It’s all very private. But we still can go to the cloud to get updates,” he added.
While acknowledging that some features may require the purchase of a new PC, Mehdi assured users that their existing devices would still benefit from AI enhancements like Copilot.
“Some of these devices do require this new PC with the new MPU. You need that new performance,” he clarified.
As Microsoft continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI in personal computing, the unveiling of these AI-powered PCs represents a significant step forward in democratizing cutting-edge technology. With their impressive capabilities and affordability, starting at $999, these devices are poised to redefine the computing experience for millions of users worldwide.
