Michael Dell’s Vision for the Future: “AI Everywhere”

Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell has been a captain of the personal computer revolution since he founded Dell Inc. from his University of Texas dorm room in 1984.

His innovative direct-sales model shook up the PC market and established Dell as one of the top technology companies in the world. Fast forward 2024 and now Dell is convinced that artificial intelligence (AI) will be the next game-changing technology that will touch every major sector. In Las Vegas for Dell Worlds, he sat down for an interview to share his thoughts on the inevitable pervasiveness of AI.

“AI is going to be everywhere,” said Dell, emphatically. He highlighted Dell’s new partnership with NVIDIA as key to bringing AI capabilities to the “physical world” of PCs, factories, retail stores and more.

“The reason Dell has partnered with NVIDIA is because they’ve outengineered other companies and built software over many decades that has prepared for this opportunity,” he explained. “NVIDIA is in a great position. Jensen [Huang] has done a fabulous job bringing the world the most innovative accelerated computing solutions.”

Dell compared the development of AI systems to a supply chain, with data as the critical raw material.

“If you have no data, you have no AI. And if you have bad data, you have bad AI,” he cautioned. “You have to organize your data. We store more data than anybody in the world.”

From that data foundation, Dell sees an “AI factory” that harnesses the software, models and infrastructure to create intelligence.

“It’s a supply chain to create intelligence inside your company,” he said. “You start with the data and then get into the ecosystem of all the software and the models…small and large models, augmented generation.”

With AI rapidly advancing, Dell is positioning his company for a future where the technology becomes universal. “AI is going to be everywhere,” he declared.
