“A Historic Opportunity” for Business Transformation, Says Michael Dell on AI

“Anything you want to do with your PC is going to be enhanced with AI,” said Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies, during an interview at Citi’s Global TMT Conference. With AI becoming integral to businesses, Dell sees it as a major force reshaping industries. He explained how AI is already transforming everyday computing: “Your response can be informed with all the documents and emails that your computer has experienced.”

Dell underlined that enterprises are just beginning their AI journey. “They’re still figuring out how to organize their data, picking the two or three use cases that make the most difference to them,” he shared. This early stage reflects the immense potential for AI to revolutionize operations, with Dell saying: “It’s a historic opportunity to make businesses way more productive and efficient.”

Dell Technologies, long associated with PCs and servers, is now deeply involved in AI infrastructure. The company’s server and networking business grew 80% year-over-year, driven by AI demand.

“We are a very different company driven by data and the enormous wave of infrastructure being built around AI,” Dell said, which underscored the scale of this shift.

Looking to the future, Dell described the rapidly evolving capabilities of AI models, noting: “Right now the models are pretty great, but it’s the worst they’ll ever be — they’re only going to get better.” As AI progresses, Dell believes its applications will extend across various industries, from healthcare to education, driving what he called “an exciting future” of human potential.

In terms of challenges, Dell acknowledged that managing AI infrastructure requires significant resources but sees it as both “a challenge and an opportunity.”

“I’m generally very optimistic about how this is going to enable human potential in tremendous ways,” said Dell.

As Dell Technologies continues to ride the AI wave, the company is positioning itself as a leader in building the infrastructure needed for this transformation. “We’re just getting started,” Dell concluded, pointing to a future where AI will power not only businesses but also human creativity and innovation.
