Anthropic Secures $1B from Google with Plans for Major AI Advancements, According to Sources

Anthropic has raised $1 billion from Google, boosting the tech giant’s total investment in the AI company to $3 billion. This funding, first reported by the Financial Times, comes as Anthropic gears up for significant product updates in 2025, including advancements to its chatbot, Claude, and the launch of a new AI system called the “Virtual Collaborator.”

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei outlined the company’s ambitious roadmap, which includes introducing “two-way” voice chat and web access for Claude, alongside the Virtual Collaborator. This system is designed to execute workflows, write and verify code, and seamlessly integrate with platforms like Slack and Google Docs.

The investment adds to Anthropic’s reported $14.7 billion in total funding, with a $60 billion valuation as the company continues to seek additional backing from investors like Lightspeed. Anthropic’s developments signal a push to redefine AI-driven collaboration tools, underscoring Google’s strategic stake in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
