Meta’s Head of Business AI, Clara Shih, is leading a transformative approach to artificial intelligence (AI) development, placing trust, safety and diversity at the forefront of the company’s initiatives.
In a recent interview, Shih revealed her decision to join Meta was driven by the company’s commitment to responsible AI development.
“One of the things that drew me to Meta is how committed the company is to investing in this area of trust and safety, not just for Meta, but in an open way,” she said, pointing to Llama Guard as an example of their open-source technology initiatives.
Meta’s approach to AI development stands out in the tech industry, with the company implementing robust systems to address concerns about proprietary and sensitive data while actively working to correct potential biases. Shih explained that these safeguards are continuously refined and improved over time.
The executive noted Meta’s distinctive position in the tech industry as having women leading all three of its major AI divisions — the research laboratory, consumer AI, and business AI. She stressed the critical importance of diverse perspectives in both creating and utilizing AI technologies.
Under Shih’s leadership, Meta’s Business AI division is focusing on making AI tools more accessible and reliable for companies while maintaining stringent safety standards. Her team’s work builds on her previous experience driving innovation in consumer engagement through social media and her leadership role at Salesforce.
