Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude chatbot, is finalizing a $3.5 billion funding round, increasing its valuation to $61.5 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal. Initially targeting $2 billion, the company has secured commitments for a larger round, signaling strong investor confidence in its AI advancements.
The funding round includes participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, General Catalyst, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Abu Dhabi-based MGX. If completed at $3.5 billion, the raise will bring Anthropic’s total funding to approximately $18 billion, reinforcing its position as a key player in AI innovation.
The company recently launched its latest AI model, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, further expanding its AI capabilities. Despite reaching an estimated $1.2 billion in annualized revenue, The Wall Street Journal reported that Anthropic is still operating at a loss. The new funds are expected to be directed toward enhancing AI technologies, with a focus on scaling development and infrastructure.
