Gretel, the San Diego-based startup specializing in synthetic data generation, has reportedly been acquired by NVIDIA in a deal valued in the nine figures — surpassing its previous $320 million valuation. Founded in 2019, Gretel built a platform that enables the creation of high-quality synthetic data to train AI models, addressing the growing demand for privacy-preserving, scalable data solutions.
The company’s 80-member team will now join NVIDIA, with its technology set to become part of NVIDIA’s expanding generative AI developer stack. Gretel had previously raised $67 million from top investors including Greylock and Anthos Capital. The acquisition highlights the strategic role of synthetic data in powering next-generation AI, as real-world datasets become increasingly scarce.
