Qualcomm has acquired the generative AI division of VinAI, a Hanoi-based AI research firm founded by former DeepMind scientist Hung Bui, further expanding its push into edge AI innovation. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Jilei Hou, Qualcomm’s SVP of Engineering, said the acquisition reflects the company’s commitment to investing in next-generation AI research and development. He noted that integrating VinAI’s talent would strengthen Qualcomm’s ability to deliver AI solutions across industries.
Founded in 2019, VinAI specializes in computer vision, language models, and AI-powered automotive systems. Bui, who will join Qualcomm, said the team’s generative AI expertise would enhance Qualcomm’s product lines in smartphones, PCs, and vehicles.
