Amazon Web Services is developing a new AI-driven code generation tool internally codenamed “Kiro,” according to documents reviewed by Business Insider. The tool is designed to generate code in near real-time using natural language prompts and existing codebases, and reportedly includes web and desktop applications with multimodal functionality.
Kiro will connect with AI agents, support third-party integrations, and assist in producing technical design documents, identifying bugs, and optimizing code. While AWS already offers Q Developer — its existing AI coding assistant — Kiro appears to be a more advanced system. Initial plans targeted a late-June launch, though timelines may shift. The move comes amid growing competition in the AI coding space, as industry valuations surge.
