Meta has acquired Play AI, a startup specializing in AI-generated, human-like voice technology, in a move to deepen its capabilities in audio content creation and conversational AI. According to an internal memo reported by Bloomberg, the entire Play AI team will join Meta, aligning with its broader roadmap for AI Characters, Meta AI, wearables, and synthetic voice applications.
The acquisition follows Meta’s ongoing investment in AI, including high-profile hires from OpenAI and the recent appointment of Alexandr Wang, CEO of Scale AI, to lead a new initiative focused on superintelligence. While financial terms were not disclosed, the deal positions Play AI’s voice platform as a key asset in Meta’s evolving AI ecosystem.
