Proton Launches Lumo, a Privacy-First AI Assistant Built on Open-Source Models

Proton, the Swiss company known for its encrypted productivity tools, has launched Lumo, a new AI assistant designed to protect user privacy by default. Unlike mainstream AI chatbots, Lumo operates without logging conversations, supports end-to-end encryption, and includes a ghost mode that deletes chats once closed.

Available on the web and through iOS and Android apps, Lumo doesn’t require user accounts and can process uploaded documents or integrate with Proton Drive for private cloud-based file interactions. Built entirely on open-source language models, Lumo runs from Proton’s European data centers and excludes third-party providers like OpenAI, ensuring no user data is used for training.

With zero-access encryption and full on-device decryption, Lumo reinforces Proton’s commitment to privacy-first AI in a crowded global market.
