OpenAI has asked a court to compel Meta to produce documents related to alleged communications between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg concerning Musk’s unsolicited $97 billion bid to acquire the ChatGPT-maker earlier this year. The request was disclosed in a legal filing Thursday as part of Musk’s ongoing lawsuit against OpenAI, which challenges the company’s restructuring into a public benefit corporation.
OpenAI’s lawyers argue that Musk and Meta discussed potential financing or investment arrangements linked to the bid, though Meta has objected to earlier subpoenas. The case highlights the intensifying AI rivalry, with Meta investing heavily in frontier models and talent while OpenAI defends its corporate structure and independence from takeover attempts.
