Former Google Security Leaders Launch AegisAI with $13M Seed to Tackle AI-Driven Email Threats

AegisAI, a new email security startup founded by former Google Safe Browsing and reCAPTCHA executives Cy Khormaee and Ryan Luo, has emerged from stealth with $13M in seed funding co-led by Accel and Foundation Capital. The company is building autonomous AI agents designed to stop phishing, malware, and business email compromise attacks before they reach inboxes.

Khormaee, who previously led Google’s security products protecting billions of users, and Luo, who spent nearly a decade on the Safe Browsing team, developed AegisAI’s orchestrated network of reasoning agents. These custom large language models inspect every component of an email in real time — from attachments and links to metadata and QR codes — working together to detect and neutralize threats.

With pilots already running in the U.S. and Europe, including customers such as Lokker and Mesh Connect, AegisAI aims to provide faster detection, fewer false positives, and a scalable defense against increasingly sophisticated AI-driven cyberattacks. The new capital will fund technical expansion and a go-to-market push from its offices in San Francisco and New York.
