NVIDIA Commits $100B to OpenAI in Landmark AI Infrastructure Deal

Nvidia will invest $100 billion in OpenAI under a newly announced partnership that will add at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia-powered AI data centers to accelerate the computing backbone behind ChatGPT. The companies confirmed that the first gigawatt of systems will come online in the second half of 2026, with details of the arrangement to be finalized in the coming weeks.

The move builds on Nvidia and OpenAI’s existing collaborations with Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate partners, who pledged $100 billion earlier this year to expand OpenAI’s infrastructure. The investment follows OpenAI’s recent agreement giving Microsoft a $100 billion equity stake in its for-profit entity.

OpenAI, led by CEO Sam Altman, now reports 700 million weekly active users. The deal further cements Nvidia’s central role in AI development at a time of record demand for advanced compute.
