OpenAI Suspends Sora Feature Allowing AI-Generated Videos of Martin Luther King Jr.

OpenAI has suspended the use of its Sora video generation model to create likenesses of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. following a request from Dr. King’s estate. The decision comes after reports of inappropriate and disrespectful AI-generated videos depicting the late civil rights leader circulated on the platform.

The restriction reflects OpenAI’s policy to give public figures and their families control over how their likeness is used in AI-generated content. Authorized representatives can now request to block the use of specific likenesses within Sora.

The move follows ongoing debate about ethical and copyright concerns surrounding AI-generated videos, as Sora continues to face scrutiny for depictions of real and historical figures.
