Canva has announced the acquisition of U.K.-based animation startup Cavalry and stealth ad-technology company MangoAI as part of a strategy to strengthen its AI-powered creative and marketing ecosystem.
Cavalry specializes in 2D motion animation across advertising, gaming, and generative art, and its technology will be integrated into Affinity, Canva’s professional editing suite acquired in 2024, adding motion editing to existing photo, vector, and layout tools.
MangoAI develops reinforcement learning systems designed to optimize video advertising performance; co-founders Nirmal Govind and Vinith Misra, both former Netflix data scientists, will join Canva, with Govind becoming chief algorithms officer.
The acquisitions build on Canva’s recent marketing tools, including MagicBrief and Canva Grow, as the company targets expanded video creation, campaign optimization, and measurement across its 265 million users and $4 billion annualized revenue base.
