Anthropic Flags Risks of Powerful “Mythos” AI Model in U.S. Government Briefing

Anthropic has confirmed that it briefed the administration of Donald Trump on its newly developed Mythos model, an advanced AI system the company has chosen not to release publicly due to concerns over its potential cybersecurity capabilities. The disclosure was made by Jack Clark, co-founder and Head of Public Benefit, during remarks at the Semafor World Economy Summit.

Clark indicated that despite ongoing legal action against the U.S. Department of Defense, the company continues to engage with government stakeholders on frontier AI risks. The lawsuit, filed earlier this year, followed a dispute in which the Pentagon labeled Anthropic a supply-chain risk after disagreements over military access to its systems, including potential applications in surveillance and autonomous weapons. A separate contract was ultimately awarded to OpenAI.

Anthropic maintained that informing government authorities about powerful AI systems remains essential due to their national security implications. Clark also addressed broader societal impacts, noting early signs of pressure in graduate employment markets while emphasizing uncertainty around long-term disruption. He added that the company is preparing for potential labor shifts as AI capabilities accelerate.

The company’s leadership continues to frame advanced AI development as both an economic transformation and a national security priority, requiring closer coordination between private developers and public institutions.

Anthropic is rapidly reshaping investor sentiment in the artificial intelligence sector, as its accelerating revenue growth prompts renewed scrutiny of OpenAI’s valuation and long-term positioning. According to reporting from the Financial Times, Anthropic’s annualized revenue rose from $9 billion at the end of 2025 to $30 billion by March, driven largely by demand for its AI coding tools.

The surge has led some investors to question whether OpenAI’s valuation — reported at $852 billion — can be justified without assuming significantly higher future outcomes, including a potential trillion-dollar public listing. In comparison, Anthropic’s valuation of $380 billion is increasingly being viewed as more grounded relative to its growth trajectory.

Secondary market activity reflects this divergence, with strong demand for Anthropic shares while OpenAI stock trades at a discount. Sam Altman’s past experience navigating inflated startup valuations has resurfaced in investor discussions, particularly around sustainability and long-term returns.

Sarah Friar has defended OpenAI’s position, pointing to its $122 billion fundraising round as evidence of continued confidence. However, external observers, including Jai Das, have drawn comparisons to past technology leaders that lost dominance despite early advantages.

The evolving dynamic underscores intensifying competition at the frontier of AI, where revenue traction and enterprise adoption are becoming critical benchmarks for leadership.
