Anthropic has launched a new set of AI-powered tools for the legal sector, expanding its Claude for Legal platform with specialised plug-ins and Model Context Protocol connectors targeting specific areas of law including commercial, privacy, corporate, employment, and AI governance.
The new tools are designed to automate clerical legal work such as document search and review, case law research, deposition preparation, and document drafting. The MCP connectors integrate Claude directly with software already common in law firms, including DocuSign, Box, and legal research platforms such as Thomson Reuters’ Westlaw. All features are available to paying Claude customers.
The announcement lands amid fierce competition in legal AI, with rivals Harvey and Legora having raised $200 million and $600 million respectively in recent months. Anthropic’s spokesperson described the legal sector as one of Claude’s fastest-growing industries, noting that firms moving early on AI adoption are pulling ahead of competitors.
The rollout also comes as AI misuse in courtrooms continues to draw scrutiny, with lawyers and even federal judges facing consequences for submitting AI-generated documents containing errors and fabricated citations.
