Berkshire Grey Expands European Operations to Meet Demand for Physical AI in Warehouse Automation

Insider Brief

  • Berkshire Grey has opened a new Customer Innovation Center in Haarlem, the Netherlands, expanding its presence across Europe, the Middle East and Africa and providing a regional hub for customers evaluating warehouse and logistics automation technologies.
  • The facility will support customer demonstrations, workflow validation, partner training, technical education, service operations and deployment planning for its AI-powered robotic systems.
  • Berkshire Grey said the expansion reflects growing demand for warehouse automation across Europe, where retailers, e-commerce companies and logistics providers are increasingly adopting robotic systems for fulfillment, picking and sortation operations.

SoftBank Group subsidiary Berkshire Grey has opened a new “Customer Innovation Center” in the Netherlands as the warehouse automation company expands its operations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Located in Haarlem near Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the center will serve as a regional hub for customer demonstrations, testing, training and technical support, according to the company. Berkshire Grey said the center is intended to help customers evaluate and deploy its AI-powered robotic automation systems for warehouse, fulfillment and logistics operations.

The company pointed out that the expansion comes as retailers, e-commerce companies and logistics providers across Europe continue to invest in automation technologies to improve productivity and address labor challenges. Berkshire Grey’s robotic systems are used to automate tasks such as item picking, sortation and fulfillment operations.

“Physical AI is ultimately measured by performance in the real world,” CEO Dave Paratore noted in the announcement. “For more than a decade, Berkshire Grey has helped customers apply AI and robotics to solve operational challenges in live production environments at enterprise scale. As demand for intelligent automation continues to grow across Europe, we’re investing in the people, facilities, and capabilities needed to bring that experience and expertise closer to our customers.”

What Will the Customer Innovation Center Support?

Berkshire Grey said the facility will provide customers and partners with a location to test automation workflows and evaluate robotic systems before deployment in production environments.

According to the company, the new center will also support:

  • Customer demonstrations and executive briefings
  • Partner and systems integrator training
  • Technical education programs
  • Regional service and support operations
  • Deployment planning and solution design

The company has spent more than a decade developing AI-powered robotic systems for warehouse and fulfillment operations. Its technology is used by organizations including FedEx and Walmart to automate high-volume logistics workflows.

The company stressed that the Amsterdam-area location places Berkshire Grey near one of Europe’s largest transportation hubs and within a major logistics and warehouse automation market. The company said it plans to continue expanding its technical, engineering, service and commercial teams across the region to support growing demand.
