Pinterest Positions Itself as AI-Enabled Shopping Assistant Amid Ongoing “Cambrian Moment” for AI

Bill Ready, CEO of Pinterest, told investors during the company’s Q2 earnings call that the platform should be viewed as an AI-enabled shopping assistant, leveraging proprietary multimodal AI, visual search, conversational search, and AI-powered advertising to deliver personalized recommendations that match users’ tastes and styles. While acknowledging investor concerns over the rise of the “agentic web” — where AI agents could shop autonomously for users — Ready said such technology remains far from mainstream adoption.

Pinterest described the current AI landscape as a “Cambrian moment” and highlighted efforts to use AI for positivity and responsible engagement. The company is also tackling generative AI content quality issues through labeling and filtering tools. Q2 revenue reached $998 million, with over half of monthly users now Gen Z.
