Google has unveiled plans to invest $15 billion to establish a 1-gigawatt AI and data center hub in Visakhapatnam, located in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh. The investment, to be deployed through 2030, represents the company’s largest commitment in India and its biggest AI infrastructure project outside the United States.
The new hub will expand Google Cloud’s global AI network across 12 countries and integrate subsea cable infrastructure through a partnership with Bharti Airtel and AdaniConneX. Powered by Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and the Gemini AI platform, the facility will serve as a regional backbone supporting AI development and services such as Search, YouTube, and Gmail.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian described the initiative as central to connecting India’s digital economy and positioning the country as a hub for AI innovation across Asia.
