Microsoft reported strong quarterly results with $81.3 billion in revenue and record cloud sales exceeding $50 billion, even as investors reacted cautiously to the company’s rapidly rising capital expenditures tied to AI infrastructure. Chief executive Satya Nadella said the increased spending is translating into long-term demand, emphasizing that Microsoft’s data center capacity is effectively fully booked to support enterprise AI workloads.
Microsoft has already spent $72.4 billion in capital expenditures this fiscal year, largely to serve AI demand from customers and partners including OpenAI and Anthropic. Nadella highlighted growth across AI products, including GitHub Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot, while CFO Amy Hood said AI demand continues to outpace available infrastructure, reinforcing Microsoft’s aggressive investment strategy.
