Safe Superintelligence Eyes $20B Valuation in New Funding Talks

Safe Superintelligence (SSI), the AI startup co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, is in discussions to raise funding at a valuation of at least $20 billion, according to sources speaking to Reuters. This would mark a fourfold increase from its $5 billion valuation in September, when it secured $1 billion from investors including Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and DST Global.

SSI, founded in June 2023, has positioned itself as a pioneer in “safe superintelligence”, aiming to develop AI that surpasses human intelligence while remaining aligned with human interests. Despite not yet generating revenue, investor interest remains high, largely due to Sutskever’s influence in the AI space.

The startup has remained highly secretive, revealing little about its approach beyond its mission. Sutskever’s co-founders, Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, bring expertise from Apple and OpenAI, further fueling anticipation around SSI’s development. Discussions with new and existing investors remain in the early stages, and fundraising terms could still change, according to sources.
