The European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) has announced the selection of six additional AI Factories across Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia, reinforcing Europe’s position in artificial intelligence development. This expansion follows the initial selection of seven AI Factories in December 2024 and brings the total number of sites to 13.
With a combined €485 million investment from EU and national sources, these AI Factories will provide privileged access to startups and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), facilitating growth and accelerating AI adoption. Backed by Europe’s supercomputing network, the initiative will offer cutting-edge computing power, datasets, and AI expertise to fuel large-scale, trustworthy, and ethical AI model development.
As part of the broader Invest AI initiative, announced by President Ursula von der Leyen at the AI Action Summit in Paris, the EU plans to mobilize up to €200 billion in AI investments. This includes the launch of AI Gigafactories, high-performance computing hubs dedicated to advancing next-generation AI models and applications.
The expansion of AI Factories marks a significant step in the European Commission’s AI strategy, strengthening innovation, competitiveness, and technological sovereignty across the EU.
