In his first earnings call as Intel’s CEO, Lip-Bu Tan laid out a sweeping plan to reposition Intel in the artificial intelligence market, acknowledging that reclaiming ground from NVIDIA will not be a quick fix. Tan said Intel would overhaul its existing product portfolio to align with emerging AI trends like robotics and autonomous agents, adopting a full-system approach similar to NVIDIA’s.
Tan said that Intel will build its AI future internally rather than relying on acquisitions, noting the company must “radically evolve our design and engineering mindset” to meet customer needs proactively. CFO David Zinsner added that restoring balance sheet strength would take precedence over major acquisitions. While analysts noted the challenges ahead, Tan said Intel’s goal is clear: to become the AI platform of choice across both data centers and edge computing.
