OpenAI Ends Scale AI Contract Amid Meta Partnership

OpenAI confirmed it is ending work with data-labeling supplier Scale AI, citing a pivot to “more specialised providers” as Scale aligns with Meta Platforms. Company spokespersons said collaboration had already been winding down before Meta agreed to invest billions and appoint Scale founder Alexandr Wang to lead a new super-intelligence unit.

OpenAI chief financial officer Sarah Friar had earlier indicated ties might continue, but policy shifted as Meta’s agreement became public. Reuters also reported that Google is exploring alternatives.

Scale’s interim CEO Jason Droege wrote that the firm will “double down” on enterprise AI applications, while general counsel insisted client data will remain protected and Wang will not handle day-to-day operations.
