AI cloud infrastructure company CoreWeave has announced the acquisition of data center provider Core Scientific in a $9 billion all-stock transaction. The deal significantly expands CoreWeave’s infrastructure footprint, granting access to over one gigawatt of data center capacity — critical for meeting the surging demand for generative AI training and inference workloads.
Previously focused on crypto mining, Core Scientific will now repurpose its GPU infrastructure to support AI applications under CoreWeave’s platform. The move positions CoreWeave to compete more aggressively in the AI compute race, as cloud providers scramble to scale capacity. The acquisition follows recent industry trends, including OpenAI’s reported 4.5 gigawatt data center expansion deal with Oracle, underscoring intensifying demand for high-performance AI infrastructure.
