Warner Bros. has filed a lawsuit against AI startup Midjourney, accusing the company of copyright infringement for enabling users to generate images and videos of characters including Superman, Batman, and Bugs Bunny without authorization. According to filings reported by Reuters, Warner Bros. alleges that Midjourney knowingly engaged in wrongful conduct by lifting earlier restrictions that had prevented subscribers from creating infringing content.
The studio is seeking damages, the return of profits, and an injunction to stop further violations. The case follows similar legal action brought by Disney and Universal against Midjourney in June over unauthorized use of characters such as Darth Vader, Bart Simpson, and Shrek. Midjourney has defended its practices by citing fair use under U.S. copyright law.
