Sam Altman Concerned Over Bots and Authenticity on Social Media

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and a major Reddit shareholder, has questioned whether social media platforms can still be trusted as spaces for genuine human interaction. After observing waves of posts on Reddit’s r/Claudecode subreddit praising OpenAI’s Codex — often written in similar styles — Altman suggested that distinguishing between real users and bots has become nearly impossible.

He noted that humans increasingly mimic “LLM-speak,” while platforms optimize for engagement, amplifying the sense of inauthenticity. Altman also pointed to past astroturfing campaigns targeting OpenAI as a factor behind his skepticism. The remarks come as online communities debate the rollout of GPT-5, and as speculation grows that OpenAI could eventually launch its own social media product.
