Rishi Sunak, who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2022 to 2024, has accepted senior advisory positions at Microsoft and Anthropic, according to disclosures from the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba). The committee raised concerns that Sunak’s access to privileged government information could provide Microsoft with an unfair advantage, given its ongoing contracts with UK departments and a £2.5 billion data center investment announced during Sunak’s tenure.
Acoba also noted potential perceptions of undue influence as global debates on AI regulation intensify. Sunak stated he would not advise on UK policy and would donate his salary to the Richmond Project, a charity he co-founded with his wife. He also serves as a senior adviser to Goldman Sachs.
