Spotify has begun rolling out Prompted Playlists, a new AI-driven playlist creation feature, to Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada following earlier testing in New Zealand. The tool allows listeners to generate playlists by describing, in natural language, what they want to hear, using conversational prompts rather than predefined genres or moods.
The feature expands on Spotify’s earlier AI playlist product introduced in 2024, offering deeper personalization by analyzing real-time music trends alongside a user’s full listening history. J.J. Italiano, head of Global Music Curation and Discovery, said the aim is to make playlist creation accessible to anyone, regardless of their familiarity with music terminology. Prompted Playlists are currently available in English and remain in beta as Spotify evaluates broader international rollout.
