Spotify has introduced a new AI-powered feature allowing Premium users to have interactive conversations with the app to decide what to listen to. The beta launch, announced Tuesday, is initially available in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden on iOS and Android for English-speaking users aged 18 and above.
Spotify told TechCrunch the feature relies on a combination of its own AI technology and models from multiple outside providers, chosen based on the task. The company said the tool builds on its existing AI DJ feature by allowing users to type or speak directly within the app’s Home and Now Playing screens, rather than only through the DJ’s voice interface.
Through the new conversational tool, users can request music suggestions, refine those choices with follow-up prompts, or ask questions about their own listening history, favorite artists, and podcasts. Spotify said users could also ask the app to save tracks, add songs to a queue, or follow an artist through the chat feature itself.
The launch adds to Spotify’s broader push into AI-driven personalization, following earlier tools such as AI-generated playlists and integrations with third-party chatbots like ChatGPT. The feature is rolling out now on mobile devices in the initial markets.
