Huawei Technologies is nearing the release of a new AI chip, the Ascend 910C, which is positioned to compete with Nvidia’s offerings in China, according to the Wall Street Journal. The chip, currently being tested by Chinese internet and telecom companies, is said to rival Nvidia’s H100 in performance. This comes after U.S. regulations last year barred Nvidia from selling its advanced chips, including the H100, to Chinese customers due to national security concerns.
Huawei’s chip is expected to be available as early as October, with companies like ByteDance, Baidu, and China Mobile expressing interest. Initial discussions suggest that orders could exceed 70,000 chips, potentially generating around $2 billion in sales.
