“It’s a Big Day for AMD”, Says CEO as The Company Bolsters AI Capabilities with Strategic ZT Systems Acquisition

In a move that solidifies AMD’s position in the rapidly evolving AI market, as reported by the AI Insider yesterday, CEO Lisa Su announced the company’s acquisition of ZT Systems, a leading hyperscale solutions provider. This strategic purchase aims to enhance AMD’s end-to-end AI capabilities and accelerate its growth in the burgeoning data center and AI sectors.

Speaking in a recent interview, Su expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating: “It’s a big day for AMD. We’re really excited with the announcement about the acquisition of ZT Systems.” She underscored the significance of ZT Systems’ expertise, describing them as “one of the most capable hyperscale solutions providers, and they’re really focused on the largest data centers in the world.”

The AMD chief outlined the company’s strategy, firmly rooting it in the AI revolution.

“It’s about high-performance computing and AI as the largest growth factor for us over the next couple years,” Su explained. She projected substantial market expansion, noting: “We believe the AI TAM and data center accelerators alone is over $400 billion by 2027. It’s a huge opportunity.”

Su detailed how ZT Systems complements AMD’s existing strengths: “We add the third leg of the stool, which is the systems solutions that really wraps it all together.” This integration is crucial for optimizing AI infrastructure at scale. “When you think about the data centers of tomorrow, we’re talking about data centers that have like hundreds of thousands of servers in them. They really need to be really fully optimized from silicon to software to systems,” Su elaborated.

The acquisition also reinforces AMD’s commitment to an open ecosystem.

“We love the open ecosystem,” said Su. “We’re all about enabling not just our own solutions but really enabling our entire ecosystem of OEM and manufacturing partners.”

As AMD positions itself for leadership in AI computing, Su’s vision is clear: “We’re going to come with a strong foundation to build the largest data centers in the world.” This acquisition marks a significant step in AMD’s journey to shape the future of AI infrastructure and solidify its role as a key player in the AI revolution.
