CoreWeave, a leading provider of cloud infrastructure for AI model training, has announced the acquisition of OpenPipe, a Y Combinator-backed startup specializing in customized AI agents built with reinforcement learning. The deal, whose terms were not disclosed, will bring OpenPipe’s team and customers into CoreWeave’s ecosystem, expanding its reach beyond major AI labs to smaller enterprises.
Founded two years ago, Seattle-based OpenPipe is best known for its open-source ART (Agent Reinforcement Trainer) toolkit and raised a $6.7 million seed round in March 2024 from investors including Costanoa Ventures, Y Combinator, Logan Kilpatrick, Tom Preston-Werner, and Alex Graveley.
The acquisition follows CoreWeave’s purchase of Weights & Biases earlier this year and underscores its strategy to integrate advanced reinforcement learning tools with its high-performance AI cloud. By combining infrastructure with OpenPipe’s agent training platform, CoreWeave aims to accelerate the development of scalable, domain-specific intelligent systems for enterprises and research labs alike.
