Perplexity For Government Launched

  • Perplexity launched Perplexity for Government, offering federal users free access to its most advanced AI models with “secure-by-default” protections that prevent government data from being used to train systems.
  • The company also introduced Enterprise Pro for Government, a tailored version of its enterprise platform priced at $0.25 per agency for the first 15 months, with integration of both Perplexity and third-party models.
  • The initiative aligns with the Trump administration’s AI Action Plan and GSA’s OneGov strategy, as Perplexity positions itself as a trusted AI provider for U.S. agencies amid rising pressure for secure, frontier AI adoption.

Perplexity is making a direct pitch to Washington. The AI company today announced Perplexity for Government, a new initiative designed to expand its footprint across federal agencies while promising stronger security guarantees than most consumer-facing tools provide.

The move comes as the Trump administration pushes agencies to adopt advanced AI under its AI Action Plan, which emphasizes faster deployment of American-built systems. Perplexity said thousands of federal employees already use its products, and the company is now formalizing that relationship with two new offerings.

First, all federal users will automatically gain access to the company’s most advanced models free of charge, with “secure-by-default” protections that prevent government data from being reused to train AI systems, according to the company. Second, Perplexity is introducing Enterprise Pro for Government, a customized version of its enterprise platform adapted for agency needs and priced at $0.25 per agency for the first 15 months.

The company said its promise is twofold: agencies get frontier AI capabilities on par with the private sector, while data safeguards are enforced without the need for contracts or paid subscriptions. Perplexity argues this contrasts sharply with the public web tools now used in government, which often lag the frontier and recycle sensitive data for training.

“Starting today, Perplexity will automatically enforce zero data usage on all requests that we identify as originating from a U.S. government agency,” the company noted in its announcement. “Data from these requests will not be retained for training, improving, or evaluating AI models. These protections will apply to both logged in and logged out requests.”

The company indicated the new offering will be aligned with GSA’s OneGov procurement strategy, with discussions underway to make Enterprise Pro available through government-wide schedules. Under the hood, the platform integrates models from Perplexity and outside developers, aiming to give agencies flexibility and reduce dependency on any single provider.
