Anthropic Challenges Pentagon Claims in Ongoing AI National Security Dispute

Anthropic has filed sworn declarations in a California federal court disputing the U.S. Department of Defense’s assertion that the company poses a national security risk. The filings, submitted ahead of a scheduled hearing, form part of the company’s legal challenge to its designation as a supply-chain risk by the Pentagon.

The declarations were provided by Sarah Heck, Head of Policy, and Thiyagu Ramasamy, Head of Public Sector, who both contested the government’s claims around control and security risks associated with Anthropic’s AI systems. The company indicated that it never sought operational oversight of military use and that key concerns raised by the government were not previously discussed during negotiations.

Anthropic also argued that its systems, once deployed in secure government environments, cannot be remotely altered or accessed, reinforcing its position that the designation is based on misunderstandings of its technology and operations.
