”I Believe AI is Going to Impact the World Economy in Every Sector,” Reveals Bryan Catanzaro @ NVIDIA GTC 2024

Vice President of Applied Deep Learning Research at NVIDIA Bryan Catanzaro, during a detailed discourse on artificial intelligence (AI) at NVIDIA GTC 2024, laid out the expansive and nuanced strategies propelling NVIDIA’s AI research, stating: “NVIDIA is working on our own AI efforts, and it’s something that I’m very excited about.” He outlined the dual reasons for NVIDIA’s investment in AI technology: the necessity of accelerated computing for efficient AI system performance and the vast potential AI holds for revolutionizing global industries.

Catanzaro explained the first reason for NVIDIA’s focus on AI: “The value that NVIDIA provides when we sell systems for AI is in speed that requires us to understand the process of creating [AI] pretty deeply.” He further elaborated on the complex decisions involved in accelerated computing and how it demands a thorough comprehension of AI’s underpinnings to innovate effectively.

The second reason, according to Catanzaro, centers on AI’s transformative impact across various sectors.

“I believe that AI is going to impact the world economy in every sector, in every company. But how is it going to do that?” he said, suggesting that the future of AI integration in businesses hinges on developing specialized skills and managing substantial compute and data resources, positioning NVIDIA as a pivotal ally for companies navigating these changes.

David Luan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Adept AI and former head of engineering at OpenAI, contributing to the discussion, called attention to the practical application and the forward trajectory of AI technologies.

“We’re trying to build AI that can be useful and generative,” said Luan, focusing on AI’s ability to automate complex processes and enhance human capabilities. Luan spotlighted the significance of AI in solving practical problems that are currently unmanageable due to their complexity or the sheer volume of data they entail.

Both experts conveyed a shared vision of AI as a tool for both enhancing current technological capabilities and fundamentally altering business operations across the globe.

“The cool thing about AI right now is that it’s very much a moving target. There’s so much opportunity to redefine what’s possible,” noted Luan, indicating a dynamic field ripe with potential for groundbreaking developments.

Their discussion underscored a critical perspective on AI’s trajectory: the journey towards artificial general intelligence (AGI) is not just about technological advancement but also about integrating AI into the fabric of societal and economic structures, making it indispensable across all domains of human activity.
