Intel and TSMC are reportedly forming a joint chipmaking venture, signaling a major shift in global semiconductor strategy. According to The Information, the two companies have reached a preliminary agreement under which TSMC will hold a 20% stake in the new entity that will manage Intel’s fabrication facilities.
Rather than contributing capital, TSMC is expected to share proprietary chip manufacturing processes and provide hands-on training to Intel’s workforce. The reported deal follows mounting pressure to strengthen domestic semiconductor production and comes shortly after Lip-Bu Tan was appointed CEO of Intel. Industry observers view the move as a bold step in Intel’s broader effort to regain competitiveness in advanced chip fabrication.
