Amazon has introduced Nova Sonic, a generative AI voice model designed to deliver natural, real-time conversations and rival offerings from OpenAI and Google. Debuting on Amazon’s Bedrock platform, Nova Sonic uses bi-directional streaming to power fast, fluent voice interactions and is already integrated into Alexa+.
According to Rohit Prasad, Amazon SVP and Head Scientist of AGI, Nova Sonic improves on speech recognition benchmarks and responds more quickly than competing models. He said the model’s strength lies in understanding user intent across languages and noisy environments, and its ability to route complex queries to external APIs.
Prasad added that Nova Sonic is a key part of Amazon’s push toward building artificial general intelligence.
