OpenAI Releases ChatGPT Agent, Its Most Powerful AI Task Assistant to Date

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Agent, a new general-purpose AI tool designed to complete complex digital tasks directly within ChatGPT. The rollout, beginning Thursday for Pro, Plus, and Team subscribers, marks OpenAI’s most advanced move yet to transform its chatbot into an autonomous AI assistant that can navigate calendars, generate slide decks, execute code, and synthesize research using natural language prompts.

ChatGPT Agent integrates capabilities from earlier tools like Operator and Deep Research and supports connectors to apps such as Gmail and GitHub. It can access a terminal, call APIs, and handle multi-step tasks such as planning meals or performing competitive analysis. Underpinned by OpenAI’s highest-performing model to date, the agent surpasses previous benchmarks in reasoning and math.

With new real-time biological threat monitors and memory restrictions, OpenAI says safety remains central to deployment.
